Active Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) based
visitor tracking system became one of the most effective technologies used in
evaluating the effectiveness of exhibitions in all kinds of
museum. The most useful property of RFID in this kind of study is its ability
to read more than one tag at a time, it can detect the signal even the tag is
not in line of sight with RFID Reader, it can read data from a distance with
very high speed, and its quality is not affected by humidity, temperature or
vibration. The National Science Museum, Thailand (NSM) uses RFID technology in
our science communication research program at the Information Technology Museum
in April 2011. The project is designed to study how visitors spend their time
in our exhibition, how long they interact with each exhibit, which exhibit is
the most popular for children and adults, how visitors behave in exploring the
exhibition, etc. The results of this study will be analyzed and used to develop
a proper model for more advanced study in evaluating the effectiveness of
exhibitions in our museums in the near future.
