บทคัดย่อ

The Symposium on Science Festival has been arranged continuously alongside the National Science and Technology Fair for the 6th year. This year, it focuses on the role of museums in promoting civic science literacy and citizen science, as well as university museums. Museums serve to promote equal learning for all and promotes public engagement with citizen science, along with support people to develop their civic science literacy. The ICOM has defined university museums as ‘museums that operate under universities or higher education institutions.’ They are repositories of collections that play a vital role in serving the universities’ missions of research, teaching, and public services for students, university staff, and the public. Therefore, university museums can be a significant place to stimulate people to develop their civic science literacy and encourage people to engage in citizen science equally.

Civic science literacy, which helps to promote the country's development, is the other main topic in this symposium. Civic science literacy is the ability of a citizen to basic scientific constructs that an individual would need to access and make sense of information about public policy issues involving science and technology. These are necessary skills for everyone. Therefore, civic science literacy is a helpful skill to support democratic societies. Hence, citizen science is continuously considered the main discussion topic, which focuses on the impact of citizen science projects on the public. Additionally, civic science literacy is deliberately chosen as another key topic for this symposium under the title of the role of the museum in promoting citizen science and civic science literacy.

The international symposium on “the role of the museum in promoting citizen science and civic science literacy” was run successfully, and it tends to be the beginning of networking university museum professionals and citizen scientists in the region of Asia Pacific. The specialists will be inspired to engage more public to their project. The public could act as guardians for their own land and support scientists to monitor, observe, and provide data to scientific investigation. By providing a science-related skills training, researchers, and museum associates gain more community members with reliable knowledge and logical thinking to join citizen science projects and to apply such thinking in their daily life.
