บทคัดย่อ
“The Rise of Citizen Science – Elevating Communities to Sustainable Development” symposium as the first citizen science symposium in Thailand on 17 November 2021, as part of the National Science and technology fair 2021. This symposium to raise the importance of citizen science in Thailand and among ASEAN countries, widen the perspective on citizen science processes as a potential tool to develop and sustain a science society. This symposium also serves as a platform to inspire public engagement on science projects and decrease the gap between scientists and citizens, bring together scientists, science communicators, educators, and layperson in communities to share their expectations, experiences, and perspectives on citizen science.
The first citizen science symposium on “The Rise of Citizen Science – Elevating Communities to Sustainable Development” was run successfully, and hope that it serves as a good kick start for the initiative of creating a citizen science network in Thailand and spark inspiration for scientist and researcher to engage more public to their project. The public could act as eyes and ears from their own land and help monitor, observe, and provide data to scientists, At the same time, we hope that academic sector and professional scientists can support citizen scientists by providing a science-related skills training that will help them in develop scientific skills and logical thinking to be used in their citizen science project and daily life. Moreover, a strong collaboration from academics, the educational and research sector, along with infrastructure from the government is needed, as it will help and support the development of citizen science in Thailand and in the Asia Pacific region as well.
